EVERY PERSON'S TROPICAL PARADISE

This is "a garden most people can accomplish in a standard backyard," says the owner. This yard is planted in sections. The front right garden has a color theme of orange and white; the front left garden is themed maroon, burgundy and green. The backyard includes lemon, mango, papaya and allspice fruit trees, perennials, and the owner's favorite: the tropical area on the north side of the lanai-along with the multiple pots of plants. The east side has a new birdcage arbor with jasmine vines starting to cover it. This area has Brazilian red cloak and palms with other red tropicals.

TROPICAL ENGLISH GARDEN

An English garden with tropical plants, this tranquil garden, which includes several resting spots with chairs/couches and tables scattered about the yard, was created by the owners 11 years ago. The backyard backs up to Sarasota County land, which has been adopted by the owners. This area consists of native plants only. The property also includes an edible garden, including thyme, basil, sage, Barbados cherry, papaya, okra and katuk (aka star gooseberry). The garden also includes a collection of other plants including green ginger, banana bush, hummingbird bush, and tree and fishtail palms.

"FLORIDA JUNGLE" BECOMES GARDEN OASIS

The owner cleaned out the "Florida Jungle" with a goal to have a garden filled only with her favorites. The front garden is flanked with a clusia hedge intermingled with plumeria in various colors. "Ginger Island" is a shade area under the oaks with princess ginger, lobster claw, red button ginger, and butterfly ginger. Just past Ginger Island is a rangoon creeper vine, which climbs the oak in the back. The garden continues with many other unusual trees and plants.

HISTORIC FARMHOUSE AND PLANT SALE

Don't miss the opportunity to tour this private historic home and property that is seldom open to the public.  This historic farmhouse, believed to the oldest in Sarasota County in its original location, was built by the Curry family and was the site of the first Venice Post Office in the early 1900's.  The current owner has maintained the character of the home while filing it with antiques, artwork and whimsical accessories.  To enter the Home Tour and Plant Sale, pass through a gate that leads to a vista of old Florida with shady, hundred-year-old oaks, statuary and a fountain reminiscent of an Italian garden.  The home features several covered porches, so necessary in pre-air-conditioned Florida, now enhanced with antique-filled dining and sitting areas.  The tour takes you through the home and into the acreage at the rear where you will find the Plant Sale, Garden Shop, Garden Crafts, and Vendors.
